This Rosh Hashanah, help #StopHungerNow in Pittsburgh

One phrase is often repeated through both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur: “Repentance, Prayer and Charity remove the evil decree.” Now is the time of year when charity is encouraged more than ever. The word “charity” covers a variety of good deeds, from supporting organizations and causes monetarily to volunteering individual time and efforts for the benefit of the community.

On Sunday, September 13th, you can make a difference during this Rosh Hashanah holiday by packing meals for those who are experiencing food insecurity and hunger around the world.

From 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., a Community Rosh Hashanah Festival will be held at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill (5738 Forbes Ave). The festival is a partnership of Jewish Family & Children’s Service and the Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry, the JCC and Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger-relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other aid to crisis areas across the globe.

Volunteers will welcome the New Year while packing a goal of 15,776 nutrient- enriched rice and vegetable meals for the hungry in developing countries. There is a requested donation of $10 to cover the cost of supplies. Be sure to RSVP in advance to help make a difference in our community and around the globe.

The family-friendly event will also include music, activity tables and a “Rabbi Slam;” the best local rabbis have to offer in five minutes.

We hope you’ll join us, and be sure to use the hashtag #StopHungerNow to share your support on social media!

We have a lot to be thankful for in the coming year and we have you to thank for helping us make our work happen each day.  Thank you for your support and may you and your family be blessed with good health and happiness in the coming year.

L’Shannah Tova!
