If you or someone you know is looking for work this holiday season, JF&CS’s Career Development Center (CDC) will hold an upcoming career fair with Macy’s retail stores on Wednesday, November 19th from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the CDC offices at 5743 Bartlett Street in Squirrel Hill.
The upcoming career fair will offer opportunities in the area of retail sales, visual merchandising, commission sales, bridal registry, cosmetic sales, administrative support and more. Macy’s of Ross Park Mall, Robinson and Monroeville are among the hiring locations.
Patrick Ferraro, Employer Relations Consultant at the CDC, works directly with employers looking to hire new talent, and notes that seasonal employment opportunities can build relationships with employers, build skill-sets and even lead to continued work after the holiday season ends.
“Seasonal employment is usually a temporary arrangement, but it’s a good option for jobseekers to consider,” Patrick said. “When you’re looking for work, everything has the potential to help you build relationships and open doors to future full-time employment.”
Patrick structures CDC career fairs in a way that allows for meaningful interaction between employers and jobseekers. He said career fair attendees can also expect to meet one-on-one with recruiters for brief in-person interviews.
“Career fairs at the Career Development Center are very different from the typical career fair most jobseekers are used to,” Ferraro said. “This career fair will allow for each attendee to spend one-on-one time with recruiters to discuss their background, qualifications and interest in a specific position. That’s why we stress the importance of registering in advance, so we can ensure that critical one-on-one time is available.”
Individuals wishing to attend the Macy’s career fair are encouraged to dress professionally, bring multiple copies of a resume and research and apply for available positions beforehand. Attendees should be prepared to discuss specific positions that they have found and applied to online in advance.
Parking is available on-street and at nearby metered lots. Those wishing to attend the career fair must register in advance by calling 412-586-3728.
At the CDC, we’re here for those in our community who are unemployed and looking for work, as well as those who want to make a career change or need support along the way. The CDC helps jobseekers navigate the job search process by providing extensive resources and support, such as workshops, career fairs, one-on-one resume and interview help and more. The career consultants and staff at the CDC work with people of all ages and levels of experience to help them find employment and build careers in our region, even in the difficult and competitive job climate so many are currently facing.
Funding provided by the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh and the United Way of Allegheny County helps the CDC hold career fairs and provides services for community members.
