Join JF&CS’s Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry and Franktuary for dinner at Bar Marco for a “No Menu Monday” event on November 17th from 5-11 p.m. A portion of the evening’s meal proceeds will benefit SHCFP!
Every Monday of each month, Bar Marco offers local organizations and/or chefs an opportunity to take over the kitchen–bringing their own ingredients and cooking up their own culinary creations for Bar Marco customers. Guest chefs also have the option of cooking for a cause and donating a portion of the evening proceeds to a local nonprofit. It’s a chance for local chefs to get a little more exposure, customers of Bar Marco to try something different–and to support organizations doing good work in our community!
On the 17th, Chef Dan Lamb, kitchen manager at Franktuary, will serve up SHCFP-inspired creations at Bar Marco as part of this exciting weekly event.
Well-known in Pittsburgh’s food scene, Dan previously worked at Meat and Potatoes and The Sonoma Grille before joining Franktuary. We’re grateful that he has chosen to given back to the community and has paired up with our Pantry as one of the ways in which he is making a difference.
Annually, SHCFP serves 1,700 individuals and families from the 15217 ZIP code. In addition to meeting the nutritional needs of those who are food-insecure in the Squirrel Hill and Greenfield area, SHCFP meets the needs of individuals and families who keep kosher homes outside of the 15217 zip code area and qualify for food assistance, as well as those with gluten-free needs or those who live in surrounding communities and are in need of emergency food assistance. We also strive to help clients with additional social services related to critical needs, unemployment and more.
By incorporating ingredients commonly found in the Squirrel Hill Produce to Pantry Volunteer Garden and on our Pantry shelves–and even a kosher-inspired dish–Dan has worked to create a SHCFP-inspired menu that blends aspects of our community, mission and work at the Pantry with the unique culinary style Franktuary is known for.
The evening’s menu will feature items including a pear and apple garden salad, ravioli with squash filling, brisket with a traditional Jewish stew, corn dogs and a challah bread pudding for dessert. Meal items will range from about $8-15. Please note that Bar Marco is not a kosher kitchen and the meal will not meet kosher dietary laws.
Dan’s menu demonstrates that healthy, gourmet meals are possible with ingredients that can be easily found on the Pantry’s shelves. When we come together as a community, we can dispel notions of food insecurity and hunger and ensure that our clients feel empowered in feeding themselves and their families, and in their choice to turn to SHCFP for help.
This No Menu Monday event is open to the public and is not to be missed. We hope to see you there!
