In preparing the entire family for a successful school year, one area parents and children may be concerned about is bullying. For families or children concerned about this important topic, we suggest you take a look back at the summer 2012 issue of Squirrel Hill magazine. This issue featured an article addressing how new technology and social media are changing the face of bullying and how Pittsburgh area schools are implementing targeted bullying prevention programs.
Squirrel Hill Psychological Services therapists Wendy Levin-Shaw, LCSW, and former staff clinician Barbara Wollman, LCSW, RPT-S, spoke to the effect bullying behaviors can have on bullies, bullying victims and parents. They encouraged parents, administrators and students to work together at home and in school, suggesting that in some cases, therapeutic intervention can help everyone involved work together.
We hope you’ll take a moment to read the article, and talk with your children about this important issue to ensure the upcoming school year is a safe and happy one.
