100 pints of blood–and going!

At JF&CS, we’re so proud to employ a staff of individuals who are committed to giving back to our organization and the greater community. Our full and part-time staff members engage in community work in so many ways – from charitable donations to volunteering, and more.

Just last week, JF&CS staff members donated more than 80lbs of canned goods to support our Squirrel Hill Community Food Pantry clients through the IllumiNER ExtraordiNER event with the Agency for Jewish Learning, and also raised funds for the JF&CS refugee services department. And this week, we’d like to bring attention to one special staff member who is reaching a milestone in his own record of community service.

Warren Sufrin, Director of Information Technology at JF&CS, has been donating blood since 1979–and is now about to donate his 100th pint! Through his record of donations, Warren exemplifies tremendous dedication to helping others and a commitment to community giving in a new and unexpected way.

In honor of this milestone, Beth El Congregation of the South Hills will be holding a blood drive through Central Blood Bank on December 15th from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., at their location at 1900 Cochran Road, Pittsburgh, 15220. Warren’s goal is to inspire 100 people to donate that day, and to collect 100 donated pints of blood through the end of the year.

You can read more about Warren and his donation goal in The Jewish Chronicle (click here) and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (click here).

We’re encouraging our community to join Warren for his 100th donation, and you can help him reach his goal in the following ways:

  • Sign up for the blood drive through the Central Blood Bank website (www.centralbloodbank.org)
and search for the Beth El Congregation blood drive using Sponsor Code G0020005.
  • Call the Central Blood Bank at 1-866-donors1 and ask them to help you to sign up. To count your donation as part of the 100 pint challenge, use the code G0020005.
  • If you are unable to attend the blood drive on the 15th, you can use the code at any blood drive location until the end of the year and it will be counted toward Warren’s goal.

Warren is a wonderful example of our selfless and service-minded staff at JF&CS, and we hope you’ll be inspired by his incredible record of community service to join in his cause–or perhaps consider starting one of your own!

  1. It’s so encouraging to see a thriving Jewish community donating blood, especially around the holidays when there are statistically more accidents. Mazel tov to Warren Sufrin on reaching this milestone, and well done to the Beth El congregation for organizing a blood drive. I think I may speak with my temple’s president and Rabbi to see if we can do something along the same lines.
