For older adults and adult children concerned about their aging parents or other relatives, identifying appropriate services and resources for seniors can be quite overwhelming. At JF&CS, our Older Adult staff is dedicated to helping our community’s seniors maintain the highest level of independence.
Through our AgeWell Pittsburgh hotline, we provide information and referral on any number of issues related to aging. AgeWell Pittsburgh, a collaborative program between JF&CS, the Jewish Association on Aging and the Jewish Community Center, is a network of services designed to help older adults remain healthy and independent. AgeWell Pittsburgh services are provided without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, place of birth, sex, sexual orientation, familial status, age, handicap or disability.
JF&CS is committed to ensuring that older adults and adult children feel empowered and supported in the decisions they must make as they face the challenges of aging. One call to the AgeWell Pittsburgh information and referral line at JF&CS puts seniors and adult children in contact with a knowledgeable specialist who is committed to connecting callers to the services and support they need – from AgeWell Pittsburgh partner agencies or through other community resources.
On a recent edition of The Lange Money Hour on KQV radio, CPA Attorney Jim Lange welcomed Maxine Horn to the program to speak about information, services and resources available for older adults. Maxine is the Information and Referral Specialist for AgeWell Pittsburgh, and specializes in connecting older adults and adult children with resources and services to help seniors and their families address needs associated with aging. Some of the most frequent reasons given for contacting AgeWell Pittsburgh include the need for affordable in-home care as well as assistance navigating health and life choices faced by seniors. In-home care is provided through the JF&CS-licensed Home Care Registry, Caregiver Connection. And our Certified Care Managers (CCMs) assist families in navigating the often complicated decisions about what care is best for an aging parent or other relative. Care managers also help to put recommendations into place in order to ensure that loved ones continue to receive appropriate care as their needs change.
There are more than 20 other programs available through AgeWell Pittsburgh that may be of help to you or your loved ones. Whether you have specific questions, or just don’t know where to turn, the AgeWell Pittsburgh information and referral specialist can help you identify needs and provide answers and support.
